Council leader on coronavirus: ‘I’m immensely proud of the reaction of residents’

The leader of Hull City Council, Councillor Stephen Brady, has said he’s “immensely proud” of the reaction of Hull residents in response to restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Latest city centre footfall figures from Hull BID show that last week, footfall was down 76 per cent when compared with the same week last year.

And the majority of people contributing to footfall in the city centre are key workers or people shopping for vital food and medicine.

Queen Victoria Square coronavirus restrictions

Queen Victoria Square, like areas all over Hull, has been deserted as people respect the coronavirus restrictions.

Councillor Brady said: “These are incredibly difficult and testing times, but I’m immensely proud of the reaction of residents who are respecting the seriousness of the situation and following government advice.

“It’s vitally important that, where possible, we continue to stay indoors and practice social distancing measures in order to protect our NHS and save lives.”
