The John Cracknell Youth Enterprise Bank (JCYEB) have been Highly Commended in the category of Social Impact in Enterprise at the National Enterprise Network Awards.
The JCYEB, working with Hull City Council’s Youth Enterprise Micro Business Team, were recognised for raising over £110,000 to support #ExcludedUK, enterprising young people from local businesses, trade unions, charities, individuals and Hull City Council
This support fund has enabled JCYEB to issue the following over last year:
- 56 emergency grants to young people who were struggling with basic costs.
- 83 emergency business grants to young people who were excluded from the governments financial support for business, either because they had just set up or not paid enough tax along with those who did not have fixed costs.
- 32 restart grants to young people to help their businesses to come out of ‘semi’ closure and start to re trade.
The JCYEB also supported 16 aspiring young entrepreneurs with Test Market Grants and seven young care leavers access the Nathan Taylor Employment and Training Fund this year.
Cllr Daren Hale Leader of Hull City Council said:
“I would like to congratulate the JCYEB for being Highly Commended by the business support peer group the National Enterprise Network. The council is committed to working in partnership with organisations to mitigate the consequences faced by those businesses. In this case, enterprising young people did not receive the support they deserved and this local initiative stepped up to the mark. It has now received recognition for what it did, and no doubt will continue to do, to support young entrepreneurs.
“Our commitment to the small business sector is further seen with our Micro Biz Charter and our ARG Start up Grant, which I hope more start-ups in Hull and aspiring young entrepreneurs apply for.”
