Wide-eyed with wonder at sneak peek of Witching Hour

Hundreds of people last weekend were given a taste of a spectacular event coming to Hull this spring.

The Witching Houra large-scale outdoor immersive performance by renowned theatre company Periplum, is heading to Hull’s East Park from May 3 to 5.

Last weekend, hundreds of people in east Hull accepted hand-delivered and mysterious invitations for a sneak peek of the spring spectacular at the park.

The production is in partnership with Wirral Borough of Culture 2019.

Designed to inspire imagination and celebrate local tales, memories and folklore, the performance explores stories of local wise women, magical mythical characters and childhood memories from East Park in Hull and Birkenhead Park in Wirral.

Katy Fuller, chief executive and creative director of Absolutely Cultured, said: We’re delighted that so many residents around Wath Grove took up our curious invitation to attend this special event. As dusk fell, the anticipation rose and people really got into the spirit of wishing for a little bit of magic for their community, sharing ideas about what they could collectively wish for.

Based on the Land of Green Ginger as an introduction to The Witching Hour, we wanted to directly engage and create something magical for this community, giving them a unique experience, and inviting them into the story that we’re building for the main event in early May.

“The same magic will appear in an area of the Wirral next weekend as we introduce a community there to a similar experience.

“The Witching Hour is about two amazing locations, using culture  to inspire imagination and connect people and communities. We’ve seen first hand what can happen when this is done, and the results are something spectacular.”
