Hull buildings light up green in statement against abuse of vulnerable adults

Hull buildings have been lit up green tonight to support the safeguarding of vulnerable adults.

Buildings in Hull have been illuminated green this evening in a bid to raise awareness of how people can play their part to protect vulnerable adults in the city.

As part of Safeguarding Adults Week 2020, people across the county are being reminded of the role they can play in helping to prevent abuse.

Councillor Gwen Lunn, portfolio holder for adult services at Hull City Council, said: “We all have a part to play in protecting our communities, now, more so than ever.

“Everyone should be aware of how they can prevent abuse, and we should all learn how to spot the signs, and the actions we should take if we do.

“The wellbeing of our vulnerable residents is one that we take very seriously, and we want to ensure that they have the best quality of life.”

The Hull Adult Safeguarding Board is the strategic leading body in Hull for safeguarding adults with care and support needs that may be suffering or at risk of abuse or neglect. The board aims to ensure that people are able to live life free from harm, where the community has a culture that does not tolerate abuse, works together to prevent abuse and knows what to do when abuse happens.

Chief Superintendent Darren Downs of Humberside Police said, “Many people in our communities are vulnerable and everyone can play a part in providing help.  We’ve seen some incredible acts of kindness and support this year through an extremely difficult time for some.

“Sometimes we are busy focussing on our own lives and our own issues and we don’t always see what others are going through so this is a way of just reminding everyone to take step back or look up occasionally and see what might be going on behind the scenes for others.

“If you do think someone needs help, please reach out and offer to help if you can.  That might be by contacting the relevant authorities, or it may be simply about asking someone if they are ok.”

To report abuse or discuss a concern call: 01482 616092 and speak to the Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub or call 01482 300 304 after 5pm and at weekend.
