Hull is renowned as a city of animal-lovers.

Share the love on National Love Your Pet Day

Furry, feathered or even scaly friends are a much-loved part of the family for many Hull households. And today is the day to celebrate that love as the UK marks National Love Your Pet Day.

With the East Park Animal Education Centre, Pearson Park aviary and of course The Deep, it comes as no surprise that Hull is renowned as a city of animal-lovers.

So here are four ways to show how much you love your pet:

1. Share the love

Show the world how much you love your pet by taking a perfect picture of them enjoying some extra pampering, a cuddle, a walk or a treat. Post your pictures on Twitter or Facebook at @Hullccnews and add the hashtag #nationalloveyourpetday and we will share the best ones

Hull City Council runs a microchipping service for cats and dogs.

2. Chip for cheap

Keep your pet that little bit safer by attending one of Hull City Council’s microchipping surgeries, or in your own home. The microchipping service covers both dogs and cats in their own home for £18. Book an appointment or find out more information here

3. Get a pet

If you don’t have a pet, but have always wanted one, this is the perfect day to start. Visit the city’s dog rescue centre at Carr House Rescue Centre, Carr Farm, East Carr Road, Hull,  HU8 9LP  or go online to www.carrhouserescuecentre.co.uk.  Watch this video to meet some of the dogs looking for their forever home.

4. Have a walk in the park

If you haven’t got the room for your own pet, have a walk around East Park’s Animal Education Centre to see some of the gorgeous animals who are cared for there. Watch the video below for a sneak peek.
