Give your views on the future of Holderness Road library

Residents and library users have the chance to shape the future of Holderness Road library.

The current property lease for the library at the Mount Pleasant site on Holderness Road is due to come to an end in May 2018 and Hull Culture and Leisure Ltd has started a consultation process to ascertain the views of the users and the public alike on three viable alternative locations. These include:

• Drypool Green Community Centre
• East Park Pavilion
• Balfour Street Community Centre

Taking place until Tuesday 31 October the consultation explores a range of options including relocating the site as an alternative to closure or the renewal of lease. People’s views will be sought on these to help determine a final decision on the way ahead, which is expected in mid-December.

Councillor Daren Hale, Portfolio Holder for Finance, Land or Property, said: “This consultation is all about doing the right thing for the local community and the library service. As a council we remain committed and continue to invest in our library services.

“The purpose of the consultation is to gauge the level of support for the relocation of the library to another east Hull building and find out if there is a demand for the service.

“The current privately-owned lease with the landlord is due expire in May 2018. This is an opportunity to look at the future of the library and possibly relocate it to a council owned building elsewhere in east Hull, potentially saving £45,000-a-year in rent.

“I would urge residents to take part and the comments received during the consultation phase will help us make an informed decision.”

The consultation is open until Tuesday 31 October and can be completed in the Holderness Road library or via an online questionnaire at https://www.hull.gov.uk/visitor/consultation-and-feedback/consultations-and-surveys, there will also be public meetings and discussions with various community groups.

The Holderness Road library is open Monday: 10am – 1pm and 2 – 5pm, closed Tuesday and Thursday, Wednesday: 1- 6pm, Friday: 10am – 1pm and 2 – 5pm and 10am – 1pm on Saturday and if, based on the feedback, a decision were to be made to relocate it elsewhere then the same hours would be provided.
