Priory Way, Hull
Priory Way, west Hull. is being widened as part of the £6m project.

Major work to begin on £6m Priory Way upgrade

Major work is set to begin on the Priory Way improvement project, paving the way for further development of the Priory Park East business park.

As part of the £6million Priory Way scheme, the highway will be widened to accommodate the additional traffic the development of Priory Park East is expected to create.

Preparation work has been taking place over the past five weeks.

In Phase 1, beginning on Monday 23 May, a new retaining wall will be built along the edge of the Sainsbury’s/Homebase car park. This will allow an additional northbound lane and a shared-use footway to be created on Priory Way.

This phase is expected to last five weeks, with all work undertaken from the car park.

Noise mitigation has been a core consideration in the selection of equipment, and all equipment will be delivered in the early hours to minimise disruption.

During this time, BT Openreach will carry out chamber works within the footpath opposite the Sainsbury Way junction. This will involve a minor southbound lane closure and footway diversion.

Phase 2, beginning on Monday 6 June, is the start of works on the highway.

This phase will begin with the removal of existing traffic islands between Saxon Way and Sainsbury Way

During this work, there will be no right turn into Henry Boot Way from Priory Way. Traffic will be diverted to continue north to the Hessle Road roundabout, returning south along Priory Way to turn left into Henry Boot Way.

This phase is expected to last until mid-August.

Development of the remaining Priory Park East sites is expected to lead to private sector investment of up to £25million, up to 15,600 sq m of new commercial floor space and the creation of up to 280 jobs. Approximately 8.5 acres of the remaining 12 acres of land is within Enterprise Zones.

The Priory Way project has been supported with £1,439,899 from the Government’s Local Growth Fund, which was secured by the Hull and East Yorkshire LEP as part of the Government’s commitment to the Northern Powerhouse.

The project is due to complete in late spring 2023.
