Vaccines, virus control and variants: video advice from Hull’s head of public health

In a video message, Hull City Council’s Director of Public Health, has said while this is an ‘exciting time’, as restrictions ease, we are not yet ‘out of the woods’.

Julia Weldon urged everyone in the city to continue to follow all remaining restrictions and to get the vaccine when offered it.

Speaking in the video she said: “We still have circulation of the virus, the best thing you can do to protect yourself and those you love is by remaining vigilant about the basics. Hands, face and space are particularly important if you are meeting indoors.

“With variants beginning to circulate across the country we need to be vigilant about who we’re meeting and keeping that social distancing, particularly with those we don’t know.

“The most important message I can give you is about vaccination. If you are invited for your vaccination, it’s really important that you go and you need both [doses] for full protection.

“As we move out of this pandemic and into the future, I want to say thank you to every single person in our city who have done all they can. We will get through this. We will start to move forward”.
