Changes made at Hull’s household waste and recycling centres

Recyclers in Hull are being urged to sort bags of mixed waste before visiting household waste and recycling centres.

Changes are being made to improve the city’s recycling efforts after it was found around two-thirds of bagged waste contained items easy to recycle such as textiles, glass bottles, cans, paper, cardboard, plastics and electrical items.

Those who take mixed bags of waste to centres will be directed to a sorting area on the site, where an attendant will help organise the recycling.

Councillor Anita Harrison, portfolio holder for Streetscene, said: ‘’We are urging residents to sort there waste before entering household waste and recycling centres to improve the city’s recycling efforts.

“Hull is the country’s best performing unitary city council for recycling, but we can still do better with your help.’’
