Upgrade to key route in Ferensway begins today

Work to improve traffic flow in Ferensway will begin today.

As part of the ongoing work to transform the A63, work to improve traffic signals at the Ferensway and Osborne Street junction will start from Monday 9 November.

A separate right-hand turn will be installed at the northbound approach, with the offside lane becoming a right turn only. This will allow motorists to access Osborne Street East, through turning right off Ferensway, a manoeuvre that is currently banned.

The work is being carried out so that this route will serve as a diversion during the ongoing works to improve the A63.

Councillor Daren Hale, deputy leader of Hull City Council said: “We hope this will serve as a much welcomed agreement rather than placing lengthy and awkward diversions for some parts of the A63 works.

“It is hoped that traffic will be lighter on the roads as more people work from home during this second lockdown, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused and ask that motorists are patient as these improvements take place.”

Temporary traffic management will be in place, with some lane closures.

The works are expected to complete by Friday 4 December.
