Share your thoughts on Hull’s heritage projects

Residents, visitors and local businesses can help shape the future of Hull’s popular attractions and heritage.

From Friday 8 March to Sunday 15 April, the latest People’s Panel survey is looking for views on a number of heritage projects taking place across the city, including Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City, the Guildhall Time Ball and Hull Old Town Heritage Action Zone.

Hull Maritime Museum, in Queen Victoria Square will display initial plans for the major £27.4m Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City along with the survey, which can also be completed online. A selection of items from the museum’s stores will also be on display, giving a taste of Hull’s broader maritime story and what might be included within the project.

As part of an ongoing process of consultation on this project over the next few years, visitors can provide feedback in the museum, including memories, atmosphere via the feedback cards in the museum or online at www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=151782855630

The Hull: Yorkshire’s Maritime City programme will see the museum transformed in 2020, creating additional exhibition space and opening one of the domes to the public for the very first time – offering incredible roof top views of the city centre and revealing some of the striking original architecture within the building. The ambitious plans will also include the long-term preservation of the Arctic Corsair, the former shipyard on Dock Office Row and the conservation of the Spurn Lightship, focussing on the protection and promotion of Hull’s maritime history, architecture and collections.

Councillor Martin Mancey, portfolio holder for economic investment, regeneration and planning, said: “After a hugely successful year in the spotlight we are now progressing with the city’s major legacy plans to transform and protect our maritime history. We are eager to know if anything is missing from the city’s maritime story and collections, what makes you proud and what you value and love the most at the museum.

“Your feedback will help us influence and develop the visitor experience in the coming years, in turn improving your visit.

“We are always committed to putting visitors at the heart of what we do and the exhibitions and collections we display, to ensure these popular venues continue to attract visitors and have a long-term and successful future.”

Alongside this, views are also being sought on the Guildhall Time Ball, as part of a bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for potential restoration and opinions on the Old Town as part of the Heritage Action Zone project with Historic England.

Admission to Hull Maritime Museum is free and open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday from 11am to 4.30pm.
