Employment Hub a huge success as it smashes targets again

Hull City Council’s Employment Hub has smashed its targets ahead of the year end.

The team at the Employment Hub have yet again exceeded their targets set out in their contract by the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP). The targets include supporting people into work, training or volunteering opportunities.

The council’s Employment Hub has been running for two years and is based on the first floor of Hull Central Library. They offer tailored support on things like CV writing, interview tips, mock interviews, job searching and signposting to education, training, work placement and volunteering opportunities.

The Employment Hub have a contract with the DWP contract to support unemployed people in the city. In their second year of funding, they have once again exceeded their targets on the project before the year end. Over the last two years, they have supported 310 people into employment, 25 into volunteering opportunities, 204 people into training and supported a further 1,216 people with CVs, interview skills and employability support.

Councillor Paul Drake-Davis, the portfolio holder for Regeneration at Hull City Council said: “The Employment Hub provides a vital service to the city and its success is reflected in its latest figures. The hub has helped remedy levels of unemployment in Hull and has opened up many residents to new opportunities, improving their prospects in life. A huge well done to the staff for all that they have achieved. I would encourage anybody struggling with unemployment to reach out to them.”

The team recently held a Christmas employment event, which showcased festive jobs across many sectors, with Employment Advisors on hand to help with CVs and applications forms. Their next one is taking place on Wednesday 9 November from 10.00am – 3.00pm at their headquarters in Hull Central Library.
