New pedestrian islands to improve crossing safety in Saltshouse Road

Work to make Saltshouse Road safer for pedestrians to cross will begin next week.

Two new pedestrian refuge islands are being installed in the section of the road between Dunvegan Road and Clearview Close.

The work will begin on Monday 11 October and will also include the creation of a wider vehicular access off Battersea Close to Saltshouse Road, as well as associated kerbing and resurfacing.

Two-way traffic signals will be in place during the works.

Councillor Dean Kirk, portfolio holder for transportation, roads and highways at Hull City Council, said: “For the many people who walk down Saltshouse Road every day, the new pedestrian refuge islands will make crossing much easier and safer.

“To minimise disruption, we will also be carrying out some other essential works to the road during this time. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience and ask that motorists are patient.”

The work is being carried out by O’Donnell Civil Engineers and will take about 12 weeks to complete.
