Young people in Hull invited to share stories during isolation

Young people in Hull are being urged to share their stories to help others during isolation.

A website co-produced by young people to provide support and advice on emotional health and wellbeing now has a dedicated coronavirus section for young people and families seeking help.

The How Are You Feeling? site, managed by HeadStart Hull, features advice, support and free downloads on emotional and mental health during the pandemic – all chosen by young people.

Videos and blogs have been posted on the site by young people encouraging others to stay positive, including a message of support from Hull’s Young Mayor, Gabriela Surdyk.

The blog was initiated by HeadStart volunteers, but is now being opened to any young person who wants to share their story. Blog entries can be submitted through the website contact page.

Feedback from young people has been positive.

Gabriela said: “The website looks perfect, I have gone through it and would not be able to think of ways to improve it. Well done.”

HeadStart Hull programme manager Gail Teasdale said, “Young people in Hull wanted a trusted source of information where they could access the guidance and support they needed.

“During this uncertain time, it is really important that there is a source they can trust to keep them informed and to help with their emotional wellbeing.”

HeadStart Hull is a partnership led by Hull City Council. The National Lottery Community Fund programme has been co-produced with the HeadStarter Young Volunteers as part of their young people led approach.
