Why solar energy will help power Hull’s future

World leaders are at Cop26 in Glasgow this week discussing the global response to climate change.

In Hull, the local authority has already pledged to be carbon neutral by 2030.

This pledge includes various bold changes and strategies, one of which  involves embracing and utilising solar power.

Hull City Council is keen to install solar canopy systems on surface car parks, multi-storey car parks and on council buildings, and also build solar farms on unused council-owned land.

The council will soon enter the feasibility stage of the Rooftop Solar PV on Corporate Buildings Project, which will identify how the council can utilise solar energy and identify suitable locations and buildings.

Councillor Rosie Nicola, portfolio holder for environmental services at Hull City Council, said: “Hull City Council is committed to our carbon neutral ambitions and ensuring we create a responsible and sustainable environment for future generations.

“Solar energy will play an important role in this, and we are keen to utilise solar power wherever possible.”
