Hull to host first Northern Podcast Festival

The region’s first podcast festival is taking place this summer – and it’s happening right here in Hull.

The Northern Podcast Festival will take place over four days in May and will include a number of well-known names from the world of podcasting.

There will be a series of live shows in the genres of comedy, business, food and science, including podcasts from comedians Jessica Fostekew and Jack Gledow, as well as hit shows such as The Guilty Feminist.

John Gilbert, executive producer of the festival, said: “More and more people are switching onto the realisation that podcasting is an incredible form of media.

“It’s a personal experience and listeners feel as though they form a real connection with the presenters of their favourite shows so bringing like-minded people together in the same room for a live experience is something that fascinates me.”

The inaugural Northern Podcast Festival takes place from Wednesday 13 May to Saturday 16 May.

Matt Johnson

Matt Johnson, festival co-founder and podcaster, will be hosting his workshop How to Start a Podcast with £0 at C4DI.

Venues include Union Mash Up, The Brain Jar, C4DI and the University of Hull’s Gulbenkian Centre.

Around 7 million people in the UK  listen to podcasts each week, an increase of 24 per cent over the past year and more than double over the past five years.
